The North Hills Marching Band builds excellence by working hard, playing hard and enjoying time together. Students love the marching band because of friendships they build and experiences that the band provides. Parents love the marching band because of the values students gain through the support of an amazing peer group and the pursuit of excellence. Our community loves the marching band because of their exciting performances and the support they provide across our area.
In a typical season, during June and July there are "Rookie Night" and "Summer Band" evening rehearsals. Important events like camps, vacations, athletics, etc. can be excused absences. In August we have a week of "Pre-Camp" at school and then "Band Camp." These are mandatory weeks for participation. Please reach out to a director with any conflicts so that we can come to a solution. During the fall we rehearse on Tuesday and Thursday nights from 6-8 PM in September and October. Our season goes very fast!
“Thee Band of Pride, Tradition and Excellence” is known throughout the country for its precision marching and quality musicianship. Our goal is to entertain audiences while building strong individuals who are ready for success in the future at whatever they choose to do. To do so, we prepare many different halftime shows every season with unique music and drill while striving for singleness of purpose in all that we do.
The North Hills marching band is a traditional, “Big Ten” style marching band. Trademark features of the group are precision marching, high march step, memorized music, crisp classic uniforms, parallel horn angles and commitment to high-level musical performance. Our students maintain the traditional tabletop marching step from our past with pride.
The North Hills Marching Band performs throughout our township, city, state and nation, earning top honors and awards. Recent performances include the Walt Disney Main Street Parade, Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates games, nationally televised NCAA games, New York and Chicago St. Patrick’s Day Parades, Washington D.C. Cherry Blossom Parade and the 2001 Presidential Inaugural Parade.
In the last 8 years, our marching band has nearly doubled in participation because of the work of our students. Recent groups have been the largest in the history of the school, while our high school cohort is the smallest it has ever been. We are very proud of all that our students are accomplishing together!
Marching Band seasons typically include wonderful traditions such as Band Camp at YMCA Camp Kon-O-Kwee (for over 70 years), our Marching Band Festival, Stadium Review, and our annual Spring Tour, among many other special events!
